National Campaign to Promote Big Rig Semi Commercial Truck Safety: Roadcheck 2013
This week, the Indiana State Police will join law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s Roadcheck 2013 campaign sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Association (CVSA) as commercial vehicles — 18 wheelers, semi trucks, big rigs, tractor trailers, motorcoach buses, and more are targeted for checks of their compliance with both state and federal safety laws.
Roadcheck 2013 “Enhancing Truck and Bus Safety and Security Throughout North America” runs from June 4-6.
On Indiana roads as well as other routes across the United States, law enforcement officers will be stopping commercial trucks and buses to check things like brakes, tires, brake lights, headlights, and more to make sure that the vehicle meets regulatory requirements. That’s not all.
Truck drivers and bus drivers will be checked during Roadcheck 2013 as well. Drivers will have their log books checked to make sure they are in compliance with the new hours of service rules as well as having their drivers’ licenses checked for driver records and driving history.
From the Indiana State Police, this notice:
During this 72 hour period Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers and Motor Carrier Inspectors will be checking commercial motor vehicles and their drivers at inspection sites along major highways; in addition to roving patrols.
Special emphasis will be placed on motor coach (bus) safety, traffic enforcement, and proper securement of cargo on commercial trucks. While motor coaches are prohibited by federal law from being randomly inspected en route, all vehicles are subject to traffic law compliance, so vehicles found speeding or otherwise disobeying traffic laws could be subject to inspections. Proper cargo securement is always a safety concern, and enforcement will be watching for compliance with the cargo securement regulation.
